In our new Spotlight On series, we’re giving you more of insight into the brands we sell here at Boho City. Next, up in our series, we’re taking a look at Passion Lilie – an ethical fashion brand from New Orleans who uses fair trade practices and has a mission to help save the planet.
Passion Lilie clothing is ‘designed in New Orleans, made in India’. The brand's founder, Kate Schmidt, creates the unique designs in her New Orleans studio. Katie’s dedication sees her make every last drawing, pattern, and sample completely by hand. Then, once her vision is fully formed, the designs are sent to India where the fabrics are hand dyed, and the pieces are expertly assembled by their team of dedicated workers.
Passion Lilie is Fair Trade Federation business, with an emphasis on giving all workers a fair wage and quality living conditions. It's reflected in every aspect of their production process. It's an ethos that we love, and a business model that we believe should be followed by more clothing companies around the world.
Not only this, but they’re also dedicated to protecting the environment. They do this by only using all-natural, plant-based dyes on their clothing, and by aiming to keep their energy, waste, and water consumption to a minimum throughout the manufacturing process.
Passion Lilie is helping to keep ancient Indian traditions alive and well. They use traditional methods of hand block printing to great effect. The process creates incredible designs that you won’t find anywhere else.
Their main style is vintage tea dresses, in gorgeous ditzy prints and delightful colours. A lot of Katie’s designs are inspired by nature, but there are great geometric prints available too. We particularly love the retro wraparound style of some of their dresses, like this gorgeous blue polka dot dress.
Why we love Passion Lilie
We love Passion Lilie for their gorgeous vintage and retro inspired clothing. We’re also fans because of the fair trade ethos that’s ingrained into every step of their design and manufacturing process. Their eco-friendly methods are something more companies should be adopting around the world, and we’re proud to stock key pieces from their collection in our store. You can browse our range of Passion Lilie dresses here.
