Here at Bohocity, we’re passionate about ethical fashion. It’s at the heart of everything we do, and all of the dresses stocked in our store are ‘ethical fashion’. If you’re just getting into the world of ethical clothes, it might seem a little confusing. So, here’s everything you need to know about the ethical fashion movement and what it means to us at Bohocity.
Ethical fashion v. fast fashion
Fast fashion refers to current trends on the high street. In many shops, you’ll see low cost clothes that aim to mimic the current high fashion trends. These clothes are often produced using methods that are not sustainable, and put profit over people and the environment. Fast fashion has been around since the beginning of the 1990s, and it’s an industry that continues to grow. It’s popular as it delivers ‘on trend styles’ to people around the world, at relatively low prices.
Ethical fashion is, in many ways, the opposite to fast fashion. The term itself is an ‘umbrella term’ - it encompasses design, production, retail, and even purchasing. At the heart of ethical fashion is the aim to use sustainable methods to make, produce, and sell the clothes we wear. It champions the rights of workers and animals, and aims to minimise the use of toxic pesticides and chemicals in fashion production.
The main components of ethical fashion
According to the Ethical Fashion Forum, the following points are central to ethical fashion:
Why we choose ethical fashion
At Bohocity, we champion ethical fashion in everything we do. All of the pieces we stock and sell are part of the ethical fashion movement, and it’s something we’re incredibly proud of. We’re inspired by the earth and everything around us, and we believe we should do everything in our power to protect the environment. We also believe that ethical fashion doesn’t have to break the bank, so all of our pieces are affordable.
